If you take time to talk to the animals, you will know each other. If you do not talk to them, you will not know them. And what you do not know, you fear. What one fears, they destroy. The spider is a great example of the medicine from Chief Don George because seeing a spider instantly inspires fear within the heart which raises the instinct to destroy that spider, to place ourselves on the legs of that spider. The same holds true if you do not take the time to talk with yourself and the world around you. You become uninformed about what is happening, allowing yourself space to build up that level of fear. Within that layer of fear, it opens up a hole internally. And just like the natural order of things, that hole collects dirt from all around it in order to fill itself in. This is true internally as well. Those holes of unknown fear, fill themselves in just the same. The dirt that it uses, more times than not, takes the form of depression and anger, thus building the response to kill that spider. Because we never took the time to look at it and speak with it, leaving that spider crushed underneath the boot of fear. This is what those gaps cause us to do to ourselves. We destroy ourselves and everything around us. We pick up bad habits, and unhealthy things. We look elsewhere, when really the answers are right next to us, simply because we stop taking the time to check in with ourselves in those people around us. We stop tending to the fields that lie internally. Leaving that hole for depression and anger to fill in. So take the time to speak with yourself and those around you. Tend to those fields. Fill in the holes yourself before they do it for you.
